Benefits sharing
Initiated by Sequence Bio and co-developed with the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, the Benefits and Royalty Agreement sets specific terms for sharing the financial and structural value generated by our research and development programs.
Financial returns and local investment
The agreement ensures that the province’s contribution to our research is matched by a direct return on its success:
Annual royalty: Sequence Bio pays an annual royalty to the province based on a percentage of our gross revenue. These funds are managed by the provincial government to support programs that benefit Newfoundlanders and Labradorians.
Investing locally: We will continue to grow Sequence Bio as a Newfoundland and Labrador-headquartered company, create high-value jobs for the local STEM workforce, and prioritize partnerships with local researchers and health professionals.
Growth through collaboration
The agreement also establishes a Collaboration Committee that brings together representatives from Sequence Bio, the Provincial Government, and NL Health Services to help advance the province’s health and life sciences sector.
Sector growth: By addressing research challenges and improving information exchange, the Collaboration Committee aims to build a stronger research ecosystem that acts as a catalyst for new investment, R&D, and economic opportunities in the province.
