    Research Nurse

    Sequence Bio is looking for a dynamic individual with a nursing background who wants to participate in cutting edge research initiatives as part of Sequence Bio’s Newfoundland and Labrador Genome Project. Successful candidates will work with nurses across the province and within the company to consent participants, provide support for recruitment efforts and help operationalize participating clinics as part of the Clinical Coordination Team. The Research Nurse will be joining Sequence Bio’s Research Team and will report to the Manager of Research Operations. Additionally, they will be responsible for overseeing administrative aspects of participating research clinics, perform and/or coordinate clinical activities in accordance with the project protocols, and help educate participating physicians and their staff on the processes for collecting samples from patients who have volunteered to participate in Sequence Bio sponsored research studies.

    JOB REQUIREMENTS
    • Bachelors of Nursing (BN) / Registered Nurse.
    • At least 4 years of nursing related work experience.
    • Experience with clinical trials and clinical coordination is preferred.
    • Willing to travel to clinics across the province that need assistance in recruiting.
    • Knowledge of the Newfoundland Health Research Ethics Authority and Health Research Ethics Board operations and regulations is an asset.
    • Experience with Google Drive (Google Docs, Google Sheets, etc.)
    • Interest in the field of genomics and eager to learn.
    • Demonstrates good organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.
    • Good communication skills and able to work well in a team.
    RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Conduct participant recruitment; including, but not limited to:
      • Consenting participants for current research and future research studies
      • Providing instruction to participants for collection of samples
      • Managing sample collection, storage, shipping and tracking
      • Collecting participant clinical data and entering it in Sequencing Bio’s databases
      • Supporting and assisting clinic nurses in these functions
    • Coordinate and manage inventory procedures at recruiting clinics.
    • Provide clinical coordination and educational support to clinics. Coordinate and refer clinics to the appropriate member of Sequence Bio’s Technology or Clinical Coordination Team where required.
    • Assist in data collection from recruiting clinics (e.g. manual chart abstractions of paper charts and electronic medical records).
    • Assist in the development and maintenance of policies and standard operating procedures related to recruitment, sample collection, management, and shipping.
    • Other duties as required by your team lead(s) or the executive team.
    • Willing to take initiative and create and take on new responsibilities as our company continues to grow.
    • Reporting structure subject to change by the CEO.

    Ethics and Privacy Manager

    The Ethics and Privacy Manager is responsible for supporting Sequence Bio’s mission as a trusted research organization and world-class custodian of participant data. The success of Sequence Bio hinges on successful public participation. The trust and support of the healthcare community and the population at large is invaluable to this initiative. This position will play a key role in ensuring that trust and confidence becomes synonymous with our brand. In turn, you will be directly impacting health outcomes for the people of this province.

    As the Ethics and Privacy Manager you will initially report into Sequence Bio’s CEO and will work closely with other team members as required. As Sequence Bio is still in a rapid growth stage, reporting relationships may change over time as new team members join the organization.

    ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Inform and help implement best practices with respect to participant and data privacy across our technology, processes, communications and culture
    • Support internal and external policy development related to data security, privacy, information exchange with partners, genetic non-discrimination policy, online patient communities and portals, health research & ethics, and external communications
    • Support Sequence Bio in ensuring compliance with all relevant provincial, national and international legal and regulatory requirements.
    • Research and provide recommendations on data privacy, data protection, data transfer, compliance, and research ethics
    • Remain current and educate employees on emerging trends and regulations.
    • Serve as Secretary to the Ethics Committee of Sequence Bio’s Board of Directors
    • Serve on Sequence Bio’s Research Oversight Committee (ROC) as ethics and privacy subject matter expert
    • Maintain, and support the development of, Sequence Bio’s SOPs and policies
    • Support Sequence Bio in the submission of research applications to research ethics boards, as required
    • Support the Sequence Bio team in other research questions and project deliverables (e.g. grant applications, public filings, briefings and advocacy documents), as required

    Solutions Architect

    We're looking for an experienced AWS solutions architect to join our team. You’ll work closely with the rest of the technical team to build a robust, secure, and scalable platform that can support cutting edge genetic research, improve participant engagement, and make all of our initiatives more effective.

    REQUIREMENTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    As a Solutions Architect at Sequence Bio, you’d be expected to architect and implement cloud infrastructure on AWS. In addition to a deep understanding of core AWS services, candidates will stand out if they have experience managing cloud infrastructure with IAC tools, specifically Terraform and Packer.

    While AWS experience is essential, well-qualified candidates will have one or more AWS certifications. Very well-qualified candidates will have a Solutions Architect - Professional certification.

    Solutions Architects will be expected to factor security best practices into their architecture and reason about network security concerns. A keen interest in security is essential.

    Well-qualified candidates will have experience with distributed systems and service oriented architectures. Hands-on experience working with the following would be a big plus:

    • Deploying and configuring data stream and stream processing technologies like Kinesis, Kafka, Spark, and Flink
    • Managing container-based deployments using tools like Docker, Kubernetes, and ECS

    Ruby on Rails Developer

    We're looking for an experienced Ruby on Rails developer to join our team. You’ll work closely with our internal teams to design, build, and deploy software that can support cutting edge genetic research, improve participant engagement, and make all of our initiatives more effective.

    REQUIREMENTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    As a member of the development team at Sequence Bio, you’ll be expected to build high-quality, test-driven, Ruby on Rails applications. In addition to Rails, well-qualified candidates will have an excellent knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.

    While Rails experience is essential, there are times where we may need to flex into other languages and frameworks such as Python, Scala, Java, and Node.js based on the needs of our research and bioinformatics team. Experience or interest in these technologies is a big plus.

    Well-qualified candidates will also be able to reason about algorithms, design patterns, refactoring, and other object-oriented programming practices.

    Experience with AWS would be a plus. Having one or more AWS certifications would stand out.
