    Research Nurse

    Sequence Bio is looking for dynamic individuals with a nursing background who are eager and want to use their knowledge and skill set to participate in cutting edge research initiatives as part of Sequence Bio’s Newfoundland and Labrador Genome Project - Pilot. 

    As a professional in the healthcare industry you understand the importance of ethics, privacy and security and hold yourself to a standard of excellence. Successful candidates will work with nurses across the province and within the company to consent eligible participants, provide support for enrollment efforts and help operationalize participating clinics as part of the Clinical Operations Team.

    Overview of the Role

    The Research Nurse will join Sequence Bio’s Clinical Operations Team and report to the Senior Manager, Clinical Operations. They will be responsible for contacting, consenting and enrolling eligible participants into Sequence Bio research studies in accordance with HREB approved research protocols. They will also be responsible for managing processes, following procedures for collecting and handling biological samples from participants. They will be responsible for overseeing administrative aspects of participant enrollment and ensure all documentation is accurate and inline with standard operating procedures.

    Ideal Candidate
    • Bachelors of Nursing (BN) / Registered Nurse.
    • A minimum of 2 years of nursing related work experience.
    • Willing to complete Tri-Council Policy Statement Certification prior to starting.
    • Willing to complete PHIA (Personal Health Information Act) Online Education Course Certification prior to starting.
    • Willing to travel to clinics across the province that need assistance in contacting, consenting and enrolling participants.
    • Interested in the field of genomics and eager to learn.
    • Organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.
    • Effective communication skills and ability to work well on a team.
    • Knowledge of the Newfoundland Health Research Ethics Authority and Health Research Ethics Board operations and regulations considered an asset
    • Experience with clinical trials and clinical coordination will stand out.
    • Experience with Google Drive (Google Docs, Google Sheets, Meet etc.) considered an asset.
    Responsibilities
    • Conduct participant enrollment (remote or in-person) including, but not limited to:
      • Ensuring ethics, privacy and security are top of mind at all times.
      • Performing informed consenting processes for current research and future research studies.
      • Providing instruction to participants for collection of samples.
      • Managing sample collection, storage, shipping and tracking.
      • Collecting participant clinical data and entering it in Sequencing Bio’s databases (e.g. manual chart abstractions of paper charts and electronic medical records).
      • Supporting and assisting other research nurses in these functions.
    • Assist in other identified areas of research support such as, but not limited to, medical records abstracting, medical records coding and performing audits to ensure adherence to ethics, and protocol compliance.
    • Maintain and provide an exceptional experience for potential participants, physicians and staff.
    • Willing to take initiative and create and take on new responsibilities as our company and research continues to grow.
    • Other duties as required by your team lead(s) or the executive team.

    Clinical Development Manager

    Overview of the Role

    Reporting to the VP, Clinical Partnerships and Engagement, the Clinical Development Manager will be responsible for growing the Newfoundland and Labrador Genome Project - Pilot (NLGP-P) by identifying, building and maintaining strategic physician partnerships. In turn, helping Sequence Bio reach eligible participants all across the province. 

    As a part of the Strategy and Development team, you will ensure interested and participating physicians and the local healthcare community are educated on the NLGP-P and the emerging role of genomics in clinical practice and personalized medicine. You will be instrumental in the education of physicians on the NLGP-P and consequently raising the awareness of the research opportunities for potential participants across the province.

    Ideal Candidate
    • Bachelor's degree from an accredited Institution.
    • Minimum 5 years of pharmaceutical or other life-science industry experience with a proven track record of growing and managing relationships.
    • Ability to effectively communicate scientific and clinical information.
    • Proven track-record of success achieving company goals.
    • Basic knowledge in the development and execution of research studies and/or clinical trials considered an asset.
    • Well-organized with strong communication and business skills.
    • Willingness to travel frequently throughout Newfoundland and Labrador, and hold a valid driver's license and required insurance (a valid driver abstract requested at time of acceptance) and access to vehicle.
    • Basic proficiency with standard business intelligence tools (e.g. Salesforce, Google Docs, Slack, etc.)
    Responsibilities
    • Create opportunities for individuals all across Newfoundland and Labrador to participate in NLGP-P by identifying and successfully recruiting physicians to participate.
    • Build and maintain ethical, trusting relationships with key physicians to meet their needs and the Sequence Bio corporate goals.
    • Develop a management plan to meet and exceed physician recruitment goals.
    • Collaborate with physicians and clinical research staff to ensure engagement with eligible participants is positive, educational and rewarding, aiding in the success of the NLGP-P.
    • Educate prospective NLGP-P physicians in order to increase participation interest in research opportunities.
    • Share new insights with the broader team, propose new ways to work to improve our research processes and maximize our impact within the healthcare community.
    • Plan and manage activities to drive recruitment success in NL such as presentations, expense management and investments in continuous education projects and/or local conferences.
    • Prepare and assist with reports, literature reviews, discussion papers, quantitative analysis, briefing notes and other documentation as part of the physician relationship.

    OVERVIEW OF THE ROLE

    The Cloud Developer reports to the Director of Security and Infrastructure. They will work closely with other members of the technology and security teams to build a robust, secure, and scalable platform that will support cutting edge genetic research, improve engagement, and make all of our initiatives more effective. They will be expected to architect and implement best-practice cloud infrastructure on AWS using IaC technologies, and will work with the technology and security teams to implement and maintain our corporate network infrastructure to ensure security and redundancy and reduce downtime.

    IDEAL CANDIDATE
    • Well qualified candidates will have experience in software development 
    • Programmer Analyst Diploma, BSc in Computer Science, or BEng Computer Engineering considered an asset
    • Solutions focused - enjoys programming and finds the smarter way when creating automation solutions
    • Ability and persistence to take a self-directed learning approach to close experience gaps
    • AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Associate, considered an asset

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Architect and implement cloud infrastructure on AWS. This includes everything from optimizing storage and compute usage, configuring production-ready monitoring, organizing security groups, and designing solutions for deploying new applications 
    • Become proficient with infrastructure as code (IaC) technologies like Terraform, Docker, Packer, git, Circle CI, and GitHub to build, test, and deploy cloud infrastructure
    • Manage container-based deployments using tools like Docker and ECS
    • Keep our infrastructure as code (IaC) library up to date with supported OS, upstream module, and technology versions (Terraform, Docker, Packer, etc.)
    • Automate monitoring and patching of development, staging, and production systems

    Application Developer

    We're looking for an Application Developer who values teamwork, enjoys the challenge of solving problems, and cares deeply about their work. 

    As an Application Developer, you’ll work closely with our internal teams to design, build, and deploy software that supports cutting edge genetic research, improves engagement, and makes all of our initiatives more impactful. 

    OVERVIEW OF THE ROLE

    As a member of the application development team at Sequence Bio, you’ll be expected to write high quality, well-tested web applications using a variety of technologies including Ruby on Rails, JavaScript, Postgres, and a number of compute and storage services on AWS. We don’t believe that any one language, framework, or platform is best suited to every job, so there are often opportunities to branch out into new technologies depending on the task at hand.

    We’re a growing and highly accountable team where everyone wears a project manager hat to ensure we are driving forward effectively, hitting our goals, and contributing to the success of Sequence Bio. There may be times where you will be responsible for leading projects from design to deployment.

    Application Developers report to the Director of Application Development.

    IDEAL CANDIDATE
    • At least 2 years of industry experience
    • Passionate, self-starter who is motivated to support and make impactful change
    • Well-qualified candidates will have experience using server-side MVC frameworks and excellent knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Experience with production Ruby on Rails applications would stand out
    • Ability to reason about object-oriented design patterns, algorithms, and refactoring is essential. Experience with distributed systems would be a plus
    • Experience with serverless technologies would be a plus. Experience using AWS serverless technologies in production would stand out
    • Experience or interest in Python, R, or Scala would be considered nice-to-have as these languages are used by our bioinformatics team
    • A BSc degree in Computer Science would be considered an asset

    • Focus on solving problems rather than closing tickets
