    Data Entry - Medical Records Coder

    The Data Entry / Medical Records Coder will, at all times, comply with all ethical, privacy, and security requirements regarding coding procedures and practices, and conduct audits to ensure all documentation is accurate and precise.

    OVERVIEW OF THE ROLE

    The Data Entry / Medical Records Coder will perform data coding and entry, specifically to index and classify information abstracted from medical charts from general physician clinics. All medical charts are those of consented research participants enrolled in Sequence Bio’s Newfoundland and Labrador Genome Project.

    The Data Entry / Medical Records Coder will work closely with the Sequence Bio Chart Abstraction and Data Entry / Coding Team to index and classify data in Sequence Bio’s secure database.

    IDEAL CANDIDATE
    • An understanding of diagnosis, medications, referral and medical procedures.
    • Familiarity with medical ontologies such as ICD-10, RxNorm and other codes and procedures.
    • Medical coding certification and/or experience would be an asset.
    • Working knowledge of medical vocabulary and anatomy.
    • Strong organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail to ensure all data meets data quality standards.
    • Self starter who is willing to take initiative and take on new responsibilities.
    RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Complete Sequence Bio privacy and security training and factor security and privacy best practices into your work to ensure data security and the privacy of all study participants. 
    • Complete TCPS2 and PHIA certifications.
    • Provide data entry and coding for the following categories that have been abstracted from medical charts.
      • Diagnosis
      • Procedures
      • Referrals
      • Medications 
    • Abstract moderate to highly complex clinical data using established standardized definitions and guidelines.
    • Use secure company equipment and applications to code data from abstracted medical records.
    • Maintain a coding volume to meet key performance indicators (KPIs) and deadlines.
    • Collaborate with the other members of the Sequence Bio team for ongoing training to ensure efficiency of processes and data accuracy. 
    • Other duties as required by your team lead(s) or the executive team.

    Ethics and Privacy Manager

    The Ethics and Privacy Manager is responsible for supporting Sequence Bio’s mission as a trusted research organization and world-class custodian of participant data. The success of Sequence Bio hinges on successful public participation. The trust and support of the healthcare community and the population at large is invaluable to this initiative. This position will play a key role in ensuring that trust and confidence becomes synonymous with our brand. In turn, you will be directly impacting health outcomes for the people of this province.

    As the Ethics and Privacy Manager you will initially report into Sequence Bio’s CEO and will work closely with other team members as required. As Sequence Bio is still in a rapid growth stage, reporting relationships may change over time as new team members join the organization.

    ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Inform and help implement best practices with respect to participant and data privacy across our technology, processes, communications and culture
    • Support internal and external policy development related to data security, privacy, information exchange with partners, genetic non-discrimination policy, online patient communities and portals, health research & ethics, and external communications
    • Support Sequence Bio in ensuring compliance with all relevant provincial, national and international legal and regulatory requirements.
    • Research and provide recommendations on data privacy, data protection, data transfer, compliance, and research ethics
    • Remain current and educate employees on emerging trends and regulations.
    • Serve as Secretary to the Ethics Committee of Sequence Bio’s Board of Directors
    • Serve on Sequence Bio’s Research Oversight Committee (ROC) as ethics and privacy subject matter expert
    • Maintain, and support the development of, Sequence Bio’s SOPs and policies
    • Support Sequence Bio in the submission of research applications to research ethics boards, as required
    • Support the Sequence Bio team in other research questions and project deliverables (e.g. grant applications, public filings, briefings and advocacy documents), as required

    Medical Records Abstractor

    OVERVIEW OF THE ROLE

    The Medical Records Abstractor will perform data collection, specifically medical chart abstraction, from medical charts at general physician clinics . All medical charts are those of research participants enrolled in Sequence Bio’s Newfoundland and Labrador Genome Project. The Medical Records Abstractor will work closely with the rest of the Sequence Bio team to abstract chart data and enter this data into Sequence Bio’s secure database.

    IDEAL CANDIDATE
      • Proactive and motivated self starter.
      • Applicants with any of the following backgrounds: 
        • Registered Nurse (RN)
        • Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) 
        • Nursing students
        • Undergrad or Graduate students (background in Health and Biological Sciences)
        • Clinical Research Assistants 
        • Medical Record Technicians 
      • Strong organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail to ensure all data meets data quality standards and is linked to correct participant
      • An understanding of diagnosis, medications, referral and medical procedures
      • Willing to take initiative and create and take on new responsibilities 
      • Valid driver's license and access to a vehicle
      • Experience with medical records and/or chart abstraction would stand out
      • Understanding of genetics would be considered an asset
      • Completed TCPS 2 online training
      RESPONSIBILITIES
      • Travel to various general physician medical clinics in Newfoundland and Labrador 
      • Abstract information from health records of participants of Sequence Bio’s research studies 
      • Abstract moderate to highly complex clinical data using established standardized definitions and guidelines
      • Use company equipment to retrieve sections of medical records which will be uploaded to the Sequence Bio platform
      • Maintain an abstracting volume to meet key performance indicators (KPIs) and deadlines
      • Collaborate with the other members of the Sequence Bio team for ongoing training to ensure efficiency of processes and data accuracy 
      • Complete Sequence Bio privacy and security training and factor security and privacy best practices into your work to ensure data security and the privacy of all study participants
      • Other duties as required
